Dr Serkan Aygin, who has been operating in the field of surgical hair restoration and medical hair treatment in Turkey since 1996, explains the five crucial steps to consider:
The crucial first step: correct diagnosis and planning
When planning hair transplantation, the first and most important step is to diagnose the cause of your hair loss. The diagnosis will provide insight into the hair transplant planning. For example, if a person’s hair loss continues during the planning phase, it is necessary to predict future hair loss and include these potential areas in the hair transplant procedure. A person’s facial structure is not limited by their current appearance. When planning a hair transplant, the patient’s hairline should not only be appropriate for their appearance in their mid-20s, but should also take into account their 30s and 40s. In addition, a straight hairline should be avoided during the hair transplant procedure. Such a hairline will give an artificial look.
The Second Crucial Step: Harmless Graft Extraction
During the extraction of healthy hair follicles performed one at a time using either the technique FU Eor DHI,Doctors must perform the procedure very carefully to ensure the integrity of the grafts. When extracting hair follicles, it is important to determine the correct orientation, exit angle, and direction of each follicular unit to avoid causing damage to the grafts. Otherwise, hair follicles and certain connective tissues that promote new hair growth can be damaged. If a hair follicle is damaged during the extraction process, unfortunately there is nothing we can do about it. In other words, follicles that do not take root in their transplant site will remain transplanted for 3-5 days and then fall out.
The third crucial step: Ensuring good storage conditions for harvested donor grafts
To increase the survival rate and improve the effect of hair transplantation, the optimum graft storage temperature should be maintained at 4°C. Another important point is to keep the follicular units in nutrient solution. Even if all these conditions are met and practiced, what matters most is how long the grafts stay outside the body. In the traditional FUE method, the extracted hair follicles have to be kept in the nutrient solution for some time. The implantation process will be done after all the follicular units have been extracted. In the DHI method, once the hair follicles are extracted, they are directly implanted into the receiving site. For this reason, Dr. Serkan Aygın prefers DHI hair transplantation method as well as traditional FUE procedure. In the IHD hair transplantation method, once the grafts are extracted from the donor site, they are implanted into the recipient area within about 1-2 minutes.
